In this project, I redesigned Book Cover for the book- The palace of Illusions written by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. The novel traces Panchaali's life, beginning with her magical birth in fire as the daughter of a king before following her spirited balancing act as a woman with five husbands who have been cheated out of their father's kingdom. It is a work of mythological fiction.
Reason for redesign
The current book cover is Image/Illustration based, I wanted to design a book cover that is simplified and still compliments the story. The approach was to incorporate typography and make it the star.
The image was taken through a plastic water bottle to get a distorted effect. It conveyed the concept of "Illusion" and the distorted look of the typography fits in perfectly with a important element of the book "Maya" meaning illusion.
